Do you hate Labyrinth Zone in the original Sonic The Hedgehog? I don't, but I'm presuming whoever is reading this does. Thankfully, there is a rather huge shortcut to skip much of the unnecessary water sections in Labyrinth Zone Act 1,which can be normally quite long. Unlike the HUGE shortcut found in Scrap Brain Zone Act 3, this can be much more difficult to find. It's most likely found by complete accident for most players.

After navigating the first underwater section, drop into the next underwater section as usual, and hit the switch on the left to open up a door to the room on the left. What this switch also does, is activate a small platform above the water. Use the rising platform to get back up from where you came, and jump on the platform to activate it and take you to an alternative, upper path. Follow this path through the brief water section while avoiding some annoying badniks, and it you will end up near the end of the Act.

This path is particular useful if you just want to clear it quickly without worrying about the Special Stages. As you can see, it took only around 75 seconds to clear Act 1, while tit would normally take anywhere from three to four minutes on a much more dangerous path.

You are largely on your own for the rest of Labyrinth Zone. Act 2 is quicker and linear, while Act 3 does have two paths to take, although it's more of which is the easier or harder route. Unless you technically count Scrap Brain Zone Act 3 as Labyrinth Zone Act 4, which is basically is. Thankfully, there is a rather HUGE shortcut to skip most of that as well!
