I Practice With Yousician Piano Every Day for 30 Days to Become Bach (Why you Shouldn't Buy It!!!!!)

Script:

I finish my review of every instrument path in Yousician with the piano. One of the first instruments that many musicians play that I have never touched before. I played euphonium in band, so I didn't have to go near the piano… brass for the win! Trying to learn this single instrument path helped me see the biggest strength and failures Yousician has as a platform and why I think it's a hard recommendation for you to buy Yousician… But first, let's get to the intro.

Intro]

If that song was in Yousician, it would easily be ten out of ten. Alas, I have to be critical. Suppose you don't know what Yousician is. In that case, Yousician is a Finnish company that promises to teach you how to play an instrument through various lessons and songs. The software has guitar, bass, ukulele, singing, and of course, piano. I already have reviews up for all those other instruments, so watch those reviews first for more information on the software. No need to repeater myself for a fifth time.
Watched my reviews… good let's continue. For the background, I used my Windows 11 computer exclusively with a midi piano for my thirty-day playthrough. As I said before, I had never played the piano before, so I needed to go buy one. The keyboard I used is a Casio Casiotone 61-key portable keyboard. I'll have the product linked below. The keyboard worked perfectly with Yousician through a USB cable. There wasn't any lag or issues with chords or anything like that. I got it used for a hundred and twenty bucks, and it is currently listed as new for a hundred and sixty. It works great. You can also use the Yousician microphone option to record from a real piano if you want to skip the midi route. As a quick aside. You may see my previous reviews say sixty days, and this one only says thirty. Well, that's because I ran out of Yousician premium since I only bought it for the year. Being sick with covid and behind on university homework does that to you. I wasn't going to pay another twenty bucks for just another month, so thirty days it is.

When you first start using the Yousician keyboard, you get to use a staff-type layout with these colored blocks. These blocks match the color with the note in your hand. For example, if the note is pink, you use your pinky to hit the note. The staff scrolls on by, and you press on the key to make the note ring out. Hit it on time, and you get a response from early, late or perfect. Hit the note wrong, and you get red. Once you finish the song, you get one to three stars for each section. Your goal is to get every note green to gold all of the sections, which in turn gold the song. If you are in the learn tab, then you want to gold each song in the unit to gold the unit. Gold each unit, and then your gold the level. Gold all the levels, then Bach himself will rise from the ground to give you a handshake. Kidding, of course… Golding all the levels won't get you anything except the feeling of accomplishment since you can probably perform at a theater or something. Seriously it takes a ton of talent and time to gold even a single level, so good on anyone who can accomplish it.

The colored block layout was okay in the beginning, but I switched it after like five minutes. For me, it's much easier to read from regular staff notation than use their system color coated system, so that's why my footage doesn't have that notation. If you can, I would recommend switching to this as well to read it like actual music, as using the default notation can have you rely too much on it. It's a big negative I have with the guitar in this and Rocksmith. I wish there was a tab mode so I can learn how you would actually do it outside of the software. The only issue with using the staff mode is that the ball still needs to bounce on each note before you should play it. Usually, in music, you will play the first note at the start of the measure, but Yousician has its own system. I hate the ball concept on all instruments, and it's incredibly annoying in piano. Just let me play the music like normal… you don't need to get all fancy-like with the gameplay.

Yousician learn plan is pretty good in this instrument. For piano, there are nine lessons. That's up there with a guitar for the most in the software. The lessons start off easy with learning the C position, playing with the right hand, and working your way up to using both hands at the same time. Lesson 3 works your skills by playing sharps and flats and easy chords. Lesson 4, where I finished, goes into the D minor position and works on minor scales and chords. I believe lesson five and so on tacks on more and more chords at faster speeds until you are playing 'Flight of the Bumblebee’ without breaking a sweat...
