I'm an older bloke but I'm fast becoming a fan of the new breed Ibanez stuff. This Ibanez RG852MPB-GFB (Ghost Fleet Blue) is one of the most comfortable guitars I've ever played regardless of scale length or string count. It is one slick beastie and SO much fun. It's pretty obvious that I'm no math-rock or technical genius, but I dig what this guitar can do nonetheless. It's cleans are as good as its mean's and it inspires me and it's fun, fun, fun. And they are all the qualities I ever want in a guitar.
The amps.
Yek, over at Fractal Audio has been uploading fantastic presets of most of the amps modelled for the Axe-FX. The filthy amp used in the front half of this video began as Yek's preset of a Cornford M50 with an 808 overdrive dimed (but no gain) in front of it to tighten the bass. I stuck a stereo a stereo delay and a hall reverb in for severe ambience and to cover my less than perfect technique. The latter, cleaner amp is a Vibro-King with a 3x10 cab. There is tons of stereo delay on that one, probably too much, but at least the amazing cleans of the guitar are still able to shine through.
I used the Axe-FX XL+ as the soundcard. It ran directly to Pro Tools 12.4 HD and I mastered it with nothing more than the mighty Waves L3-16 Limiter to keep the levels in check. No EQ was added or subtracted.
Old blokes: Try one of these extended instruments and discover the joy of being out of your depth again.
