Icarus Beta Weekend 4 part 2 - Cavey Diver
0Continuing from our initial setup phase, we explore further and plunder more caves for resources. We are going to need a lot more iron to get to where we need to be, and to be able to process more advanced materials.
Icarus is an iteration on the traditional survival game format, in which you have persistent characters with macro progression aboard a home space station. However progression is advanced through session based 'Prospects' where you drop down to the surface of the failed terraforming experiment known as 'Icarus' to fulfil challenges and return back to the station with your spoils to redeem your rewards. But each Prospect has a time in which you must complete your objective, and return to your dropship for return to the station within your allotted time. Miss your window, and you are lost to the surface, and Icarus claims another. Work by yourself or with up to 8 players in each Prospect to help you survive the trials of Icarus.
Currently the game is technically in Early Access, though gameplay is being controlled through a Beta release, where the servers are opened once a fortnight for a weekend to test out an expanding list of features. Most of the core gameplay is complete, but ongoing feedback and analysis is being done to help to finalise the product for release.
This weekend we were tasked with multiple objectives to achieve as part of the overall challenge, encompassing the starting forest biome, as well as reaching into two snowy regions. Those who had played in the previous weekend did at least know something of what to expect, and how to prepare for the cold.
