Identity Management is the art of centrally managing user accounts on an operating system. Linux identity management used to be problematic, because the old systems, such as Network Information Services and LDAP, were either seriously lacking in security or just hard to use. FreeIPA takes LDAP, Kerberos, Network Time Protocol, and the Domain Name Service, and combines them into an easy-to-use package. It can even be used to create cross-domain trusts with Windows Active Directory domains. FreeIPA is available for Red Hat Enterprise Linux, CentOS Linux, and Fedora Linux. Really, it should be in the repositories of any RHEL type Linux distro.
