IKinema Orion: Amazing Full Body Tracking with 3 HTC Vive Trackers. First Look, Tryout and Preview!
Let´s try out IKinema Orion Full Body Tracking for HTC Vive with 3 Vive Trackers. IKinema Orion is the most advanced Body Tracking engine that recently got support for HTC Vive Trackers in an early Beta-stage. With complex algorithms and intelligent body animations and calculations used for advanced motion capture, we can soon get amazingly realistic body movement tracking in upcoming HTC Vive VR games and applications that
supports IKinema Orion. I was lucky enough to get early Beta 0.1b version access to the software, straight from the developers and team of IKinema Orion.
First of all, I would like to give huge thanks to the team behind IKinema, for giving me such an unique opportunity to try and enjoy this highly impressive piece of work. I really had a blast trying the full body tracking mechanism with IKinema Orion, and I really hope this engine will be added by many VR-developers in their existing and upcoming VR games for HTC Vive.
The Orion full body tracking is possible by using 3 Vive Trackers (one Tracker on each foot and the third Tracker on the hip), together with 2 HTC Vive controllers and the Vive headset itself. Calibration is fully automated by the Orion runtime, and the Unity-assets and modules are easy to understand and quite easy put into existing Unity projects, thanks to the included documentation.
This demonstration of Orion-functionality I did, is made in a simple room I created in Unity, with a mirror made of free assets in Unity asset store. On-top of that, I added the Orion Male-asset as well as the necessary modules and scripts to get the Orion full body tracking to work in Unity engine.
In this video, I'm trying to test as much different body movements as possible, and also a bunch of various gameplay-scenarios, to see how an in-game character's body movements could look in VR games - by playing football, tennis, bowling, fighting, jumping, crouching and some other examples.
I hope this short video can give you a good first look and hint of all the amazing possibilities the IKinema Orion can offer VR games and applications in future. IKinema Orion is supporting both Unity engine and Unreal engine VR games. The software is license-based for VR-developers, and can be ordered from their website from Q2 2017:
