The Paris region has an extensive tramway network with a total of 14 lines in operation. These complement the existing metro, suburban rail and bus routes. The T1 line was the first modern tramway (earlier tram lines were gradually phased out by the 1950s) to become operative in Île-de-France in 1992 and runs along the northern fringes of Paris, covering a distance of approx. 18 km with 37 stops/stations connecting quite a few communes/suburbs.

T1 Modernisation and Expansion:
- New rolling stock planned: TW20 (Alstom Citadis X05)
- Newly designed stations/stops
- T1 is planned to be extended up to Fontenay-sous-Bois (eastern section) and Rueil-Malmaison to the west
