3The commuter train service from Toulouse to the southern border town of Latour-de-Carol, located in the Pyrénées-Orientales department in the region of Occitanie, covers a distance of 163 km along the Portet-Saint-Simon–Puigcerdà line commencing at Toulouse Matabiau, the central station of the city located at an altitude of 143 m ASL and continuing in a southerly direction toward the Pyrenees mountain range situated between France and Spain, ascending up to heights of 1 562 m ASL en route.
The Portet-Saint-Simon - Puigcerdà railway, completed in 1929, runs till Latour-de Carol-Enveitg (1 256 m ASL) in France and adjacent to the French-Spanish border.
