Here's a couple of mods that'll make combat and it's aftermath more realistic in Fallout 4.
Rain of Brass by XLSJ and Visual Reload by pauderek

Rain of Brass extends the range and duration at which fired shells are visible and stay visible in the environment.

Visual Reload leaves spent mags as well as shells from shotguns, and revolvers on the floor after reloading.

Together, it's pretty cool visually, especially after an extended gun battle. I tested these in vanilla Fallout, as I didn't know about support for weapons packs/expansions.

verdict: It's immersive. It's cool walking back through an area you cleared and seeing all the spent shells scattered about in mute testimony to your awesomeness. :)

Rain of Brass desc:
Rain of Brass is a small mod that makes shell casings from the player and NPCs last longer, and be visible from far away, so that after a firefight you can find piles of spent brass wherever anyone was shooting.

Main version: Shells stay for 1 hour and are visible from weapons fired within 500 meters.

Visual Reload desc:
Have you ever noted that when everyone reload their weapons they eject their magazines only to disappear?

With this mod the ejected magazines will drop to the ground and stay there.
It also affects the ejected shells when reloading the double barrel shotgun or the revolvers.
I recommend using it with Shell Rain so you can also see the spent casings when shooting your gun.
