Hardest thing I've done yet. In total I probably have around 200-250 hours played on Coda now, spread over the course of 4 years. Total ~550 hours in Necrodancer.
Rhythm Shrine is in my opinion the best shrine in the game. Having that break does wonders to help keep the beat, make decisions, and read enemy parity. I think for an overall run, I'd rather have the Rhythm beat than Phasing, though Phasing is superior in Zone 4. I had no runs without Rhythm make it to Zone 3, including some runs with Phasing. However, all four or five of my runs with Rhythm made it to Zone 3. In fact, this winning run was my first Zone 4 entry.
I was actually considering keeping Ring of Peace when I saw Phasing from the 3-4 boss chest, but Phasing is far too overpowered in Zone 4 to pass up, despite my lack of experience with it. I think my odds to beat Zone 4 with these items and Rhythm were very good even without phasing, though. I have way more practice in Zone 4 than any other Zone.
When I first started playing Coda, it took monumental effort to even make it out of 1-1. I could only keep the beat on King Conga, the slowest beat. I couldn't even consistently handle a single skeleton. Over the years, I slowly improved my ability to read and keep the beat. I would spend some time grinding Necrodancer every other month or so.
Last year though, I got a new keyboard and it was light and day. The old keyboard was some mediocre 2002 membrane keyboard -- my current keyboard is some mechanical keyboard from 2019. With the new keyboard, my ability to keep the beat on double tempo skyrocketed. With the old keyboard, I barely managed Zone 1 Low% after a decent grind, but with the new keyboard, I quickly achieved Single Zones 2 and 3 Low% with not much effort.
Zone 4 Low% is by far the hardest though, and so I resolved to complete that before trying All-Zones attempts. Finally, I managed to beat Single Zones Zone 4 Low% last month. Then, over the course of about 30 hours in the past three weeks, I managed this run.
If Rhythm Shrine has a million fans, then I am one of them. If Rhythm Shrine has ten fans, then I am one of them. If Rhythm Shrine has only one fan then that is me. If Rhythm Shrine has no fans, then that means I missed a beat. If the world is against Rhythm Shrine, then I am against the world.
