Finally got sub 6 minutes! I was an idiot and forgot to finish my purchases after I got 5745exp, that cost me about 4 seconds. Audio cuts out after the third combo because I minimized my browser to look at my excel spreadsheet to figure out how high of combos I needed on remaining splits.
combo counts each split:
1: 4
2: 23
3: 52
4: 54
5: 52
6: 50

Other notes:
I was resetting runs if I didn't get at least 10xp in the first combo. I think 10exp is the way to go for the first combo. 36exp takes too long, even if it makes the second split a bit faster/easier. I used a 10 bomber, 10 bouncer, 5 planter setup for later levels. This was the combination that gave me the highest combos in my testing (average of 53, max of 56). I don't know exactly how the internal game logic works, but it feels like once you get to around 15 total units (eg 7 bombers, 6 bouncers, 2 planters), then purchasing additional units does not increase the in-game frequency at all. This explains how I was still able to get a 52 combo on the third split despite having only 13 total units purchased.
