Elderand is an Indie, Hack and Slash, Metroidvania RPG, a Sidescrolling ARPG with a massive Dark Souls influence.

The Dark Souls influences present, from the stamina bar, depleted by dashing and blocking, stat raising as you gain lvls, allowing you to shape the kind of hero you want to be, as well as the handy bonfires for resting and healing, are good, and a very welcome addition to the Metroid like experience.

Differing from Dark Souls, most monsters here respawn after a screen transition, not a bonfire rest, so the action and pressure are kept up as you explore.

Beyond the Demon Souls / Dark Souls influences, there is a bit of a Castlevania taste, with a fun whip to play with, the collectable sub weapons, like the thrown dagger, and the arcing ax, along with the respawning enemies, always eager to present their sweet, exp soaked forms for your hungry sword, axe, whip, or staff; good!

Elderand is an RPG, so like all good RPGs it allows the player to put in their stats, gained on lvl-up; good.
Vitality: HP
Strength: physical damage and stamina
Dexterity: crit chance and weapon that scale with dex
Wisdom: Magic damage and mana
These choices, combined with the different weapons, many of which scale off different stats, allows the player to customize their playthroughs, and encourages another with different choices made.

Controller support is present, as is keyboard and mouse clicking, but as a Sidescroller, I found the Elderand just more responsive with a gamepad.

So, if a Fun Action RPG Hack and Slash Sidescroller with lots to explore interests you, give me a watch and see this indie Metroid like ARPG in action.
