Ok, the serious description:
As you may have guessed by now, getting GTA 5 to look fantastic without any mods has become my white whale! This video collects a bunch of clips which both demonstrate the results of my labours, and also highlight why even someone as unskilled as me can still find the GTA V sandbox a compelling place to fool around with in 2021.
Bottom line: There are very few games in existence with this much depth of gameplay & attention to detail, yet are as readily accessible, and can still look this good after almost a decade. It only takes a little bit of work to make the game look and feel brand new.
Modesty aside, my previous "Optimised Settings" for GTA V have been wildly successful; literally almost a half-dozen people from around the world have tried them, or have promised to try them if they can find the time. It's that amazing level of enthusiasm that has driven me to spend many more hours retesting the numerous variables involved in order to achieve not only better image quality, but more importantly, in a world in which GPU prices have gone insane, much higher framerates.
So I went back to the drawing board and came up with a new series of in-game + Nvidia Control Panel setting changes (sorry AMD GPU owners) that are free to use, take less than 5 minutes to implement, are perfectly legal for use online, and result in near-perfect image quality - and now also run at around double the FPS of my previous settings. For reference, on my RTX 3070, I frequently sit at my 141FPS frame limit (for 144Hz GSync), and rarely dip below 100FPS, except when recording video with Afterburner. This means older/weaker GPUs should be able to get the same or similar visuals at 40-50 FPS+
