IoT - Information Model Repository
Many technologies are available today allowing for the interconnection of devices, the management of systems of devices and thus the realization of solutions in the Internet of Things (IoT). There are several solutions on the market providing such functionalities for specific application domains and/or device categories. Each of these solutions follows their own specific approach to technical and semantic device abstraction, resulting in a lack of interoperability between solutions. Assuming that we will always have diversity regarding the technical abstraction of things due to the arbitrary number of communication technologies (Wi-Fi, ZigBee, USB etc.), I would like to describe an approach to standardization at the semantic abstraction layer by means of generic, technology agnostic Information Models. In particular, I will describe a proposal for an Eclipse IoT project providing
a meta model for the definition of concrete information models,
specific tools for the authoring of information models based on the meta model,
a repository for the management and the provisioning of existing information models,
code generators that allow for the creation of code artifacts to be employed in specific solutions based on different environments from the same information model.
