Do you think this is a true Bayonetta game?
It’s a complete departure from the original trilogy of games, which are known for having over-the-top action, intense combat, and a scantily clad protagonist.
This new prequel, Cereza and the Lost Demon, takes a completely different approach, with gameplay that focuses more on exploration, puzzles, and platforming.
It does have a fair bit of combat, but it’s almost nothing like what you’d expect from a traditional Bayonetta game
Cereza, who’s controlled with the left Joy-Con, is more or less a defensive character, while Cheshire the “Demon”, does most of the attacking, and is controlled with the right Joy-Con.
The game’s visuals are rendered in a beautiful, soft, watercolor art style. It’s a departure for the series, but it’s a perfect fit for the magical forest in which this game is set.
So, is Cereza and the Lost Demon a true Bayonetta game? Not really. But that doesn't mean it's not a good game. In fact, I quite enjoyed it.
It’s charming, the story is engaging, and the gameplay is entertaining. And, thanks to the unique controls, my wife and I were able to each take a Joy-Con and play the game together, which was a lot of fun.
