Is The NEW Yamaha YZF R7 Better Than The YZF R6? *Road Test Comparison*
176👋 Here it is! The all new Yamaha R7! Today I review the NEW Yamaha YZF-R7 sport bike and see how it compares to the legendary but outgoing Yamaha R6! For 2022 Yamaha has discontinued the famed R6 and put the new R7 in it's place. So this video we check out the R7 alongside my R6 as well as the last generation R6 I have filmed. Then I ride the new R7 to see how it rides in comparison to my YZF-R6 and the latest generation R6! 2023 Yamaha R7 is the same as the 2022 R7 and this is Yamahas newest mid level super sport bike. The exterior of the YZF R7 is very nice and sharp, very similar to the outgoing R6! The new R7 features a 2 cylinder 698cc engine with about 74 horsepower and 51 pound feet of torque. Significantly less power than the outgoing Yamaha R6. My 2007 Yamaha R6 makes about 125 horsepower and the outgoing R6 makes 117 HP. This new R7 seems to have the same engine out of the Yamaha MT-07. So riding the new R7 felt more like a beginner bike wrapped it an extremely tossable super sport bike body. The R7 handles very well and feels light units toes. I'd say the latest R6 and the new R7 handle the same and feel like the same frame and suspension setup. I like the R6 and R7 with how comfortable they are. Both felt like they have the same rider position. Good amount of torque in the low end of the revs and you can wheelie easy. The latest R6 also had really goo low end torque. My 2007 R6 lacks some bottom end tho. Top end isn't that powerful and it doesn't just rip up to high speeds. The R6 truly is a race bike and just keeps pulling! The R7 doesn't have even remotely the same top end, which is a let down. This R7 redlines around 10k RPM while the old R6 went to 16k. So it's more like an MT07 but with the handling of a sport bike. It seems like the new R7 is a bigger R3 with the MT07 engine. Really gives you everything you'd want on the roads and it's a very usable road bike. Just lacks some of the race aspects of the R6. This would be a great beginner bike for sure! But still good for experienced riders who don't want to go crazy on the streets. As an R6 owner the R7 is not an upgrade. You wouldn't trade in an R6 for the R7 because you'd really just be going backwards. The R1 is the next step up from the R6 for sure. The R7 is more of a side step if you want your R6 to have less power in the high end and less of that exhilarating race bike feeling in favor of a bit smoother bike with more low end power. I think the R7 is a fantastic road going bike with nothing more to need for the roads. But to loose the high end speed and power is not something I'd give up. But if you don't plan on taking the bike to the track or do aggressive mountain riding, the R7 is a good tame sport bike for the road.
