Historically Mars has such a bad reputation for missions that there are rumors of a Martian Ghoul that eats spacecraft for breakfast. But what is the reality of this claim? How historically successful are we at getting to Mars?



Flybys- Include all dedicated flybys with no further proposed targets after Mars
Landers/ Rovers- Includes penetrators. A lander and rover count as one if they landed as a part of the same package.
Orbiters- Intended to orbit Mars.

Also note- Russia and USSR missions are counted as if from the same country. ESA/ Roscosmos are counted as ESA missions.
