Shortly after Doom's 30th anniversary, a new add-on appeared in the official Quake remaster: QDOOM. This add-on re-implements Knee Deep in the Dead (Doom's shareware episode) in Quake, complete with Doom's enemies.

00:00 - Intro and start map
05:05 - Hard playthrough with Doom monsters
1:10:29 - Hard playthrough with Quake monsters
2:22:15 - Briefly trying mixed monster mode (not a full playthrough)

Seeing the entirety of Doom E1 implemented in Quake is neat, but IMO seeing the Doom monsters implemented as well is the most interesting part. They're certainly not nearly identical to their OG counterparts though, especially in terms of how/when they wake up.

QDOOM also gives the option of playing with Quake enemies, and I'd hoped that would be an interesting premise with completely re-thought monster placement... but it's largely a 1:1 replacement, which throws the balance entirely on its head. As it turns out, enforcers are far tankier than zombiemen, and fiends are several times more dangerous than pinkies. Whereas resources seemed overly abundant for the most part against the Doom enemies, surviving against Quake enemies on hard is sometimes near-impossible without cheese.

At the very least, QDOOM is worth a playthrough with the Doom monsters for the full Doom-in-Quake experience.
