for context:

Rin/Kusma has a core planted within his body, right next to his heart. This core is tearing his health even more than his already bad state. Once that core is removed, and essentially destroyed, he no longer has to compensate and can instead use all of his strength for battle.
the only issue is the seal. If that seal is broken, it'll release the elemental energy into him.
