It's Time to Scale Back Games
Hey guys, Tiller here!
So I said I wanted to talk more about scale in video games, so here it is.
Games are getting bigger and bigger. And while that can be considered a good thing, there’s a point where I have to ask: do they need to be bigger?
I think over the past decade a lot of the focus has been on size and these massive worlds, to the point where it can be detrimental to video games as a whole. I mean, a lot of games get too absorbed in being big, it winds up leave a big gap in the quality of either their main story or the side content.
Some games feel like they’re also just too long, they pad out their run time for the sake of it, instead of ending the story when they should.
So, here I am to say that I think it’s time for games to scale back, even a little bit.
Not every adventure needs to hit 100 hours and not every story needs to be an Odyssey.
You can still have games like that, but I think ambition and the desire to set the bar higher and higher in every category has become a burden to the industry as a whole.
And if you disagree or agree with my point of view you can let me know why in the comments below!
