The only previous game I played was one of those 2010 ones, Back to action or something like that it was called. Never beat it, cuz mid-late game got too difficult, my sniper focused build couldn't beat the amount of enemies anymore. Got bum rushed.

As for this game, given the Xcomish Fallout AP system. Maybe sniper and explosives are the way to go. When those cone explosives took down 4 guys, it was just magnificent. Otherwise it's quite a difficult game. Enemies seem to hit you better then you do. I guess weapon range matters a lot more then marksmanship. I hope that every time my guys have hit a nearby boulder or some floor, then it was just the effects of generally missing the shot. Otherwise I'd assume that aiming through stuff is a little bugged. The vagueness of hit chance doesn't help either. Sometimes few pluses and few minuses are worse then a lot of both, just don't make sense. Still a little on the fence, but I think I'm fine with the imbalanced nature of the combat. As long as I can set up a decent chokepoint I think I can manage the enemy count. Though even here, like 3 battles in there are more then twice the enemies. Indeed as marketed, it isn't easy.

I think I'll turn on the forgivable mode, with the anti money bleeding mechanic. Currently kind of have enough money, but who knows how much those mines will give. Doing maps doesn't give a whole lot. It is immersive, guerilla warfare, in the middle of enemy territory, warfare is expensive and all we've got are the local supplies. But I also kind of don't like rushing myself, in gameplay terms it is a timer.

Kind of sad that the machine gun didn't respawn for the quest, how was I supposed to know it was a quest item. Also that random explosion during the bunker fight, and with the explosion girl also. Kind of random. Game's kind of janky around the edges. That's what I get for playing a current year game.

The decision to not save during combat was the right one. Makes the game a lot better. Trying to perfect every combat is full of reloadings which bogs down the game and makes it less engaging. Not saving during combat means the moment it starts you're all in. Though for the initial setup I'll still reload, cuz the stealth mechanic isn't quite there. If it was possible to pause during exploration, then it would've been a lot better.

Now got to figure out what perks to take and what weapons to use. Probably should've taken the teacher perk instead of the assault rifle one. Given the custom merc will get highest marksmanship, it would be cool to teach it to others to increase the accuracy.
