Jak II: Playthrough Part 7: Vin in (Constant) Distress
After finishing a sub-mission in the Slums area of Haven City, I decided to check up on Torn in this area.
----------
The Strip Mine was under attack by the Metal Heads, and one of the Underground's best informants, the tech foreman, Vin, was caught up and trapped by the attack.
Jak & Daxter are to go to the metro area of the city, enter its Power Station, and then go through its Warp Gate to investigate the Strip Mine and rescue Vin from it.
Daxter was irritated with yet another crappy mission, but Torn didn't have time to deal with his complaints.
The Baron is running out of options with his Eco trade deal with the Metal Heads. That little heir kid need to be put back into that palace soon before the Metal Heads get impatient enough with the Praxis to destroy the entire city.
----------
Any and all missions that are carried out from Vin's Power Station will be marked with a lighting bolt icon on the map.
In the Strip Mine, a familiar substance appears: Primordial Dark Eco! You STILL can't jump into it, even though Jak was injected by a more electrified version of the stuff. It STILL counts as instant death!
So just make your way through these mines while dealing with more Metal Heads and taking their Skull Gems. You will have to go around, and then upwards, and then ride on huge crates in order to get to where Vin is.
----------
Vin is VERY clumsy, jumpy, and dorky, despite (or perhaps because of) being one of the smartest people in all of Haven City. He nearly shoots off the Dark Eco Duo's heads because he confused them for Metal Heads.
After some self-pondering from both Vin AND Jak about their worth as people with the Underground, the three make their way back to the Power Station through a different Warp Gate.
----------
After another quick meet-up, and a prank on Vin by Daxter, Vin gives the duo their next mission.
According to Vin, Haven City needs Eco to power the city's shields, because the Eco Shields are what keeps Metal Heads from freely entering into the city.
Jak & Daxter are to go to the Drill Platform to eliminate some Metal Head Eggs, as they must be draining away at the area's own power supply. The Warp Gate can take them there.
----------
At the Drill Platform, you'll use several mounted turrets scattered throughout the area to shoot down the Metal Head Eggs that you see.
If you shoot too much, the turret will overhead and shoot at a much slower rate. So try to fire when only when you need to. You also have to keep the turret from taking too much damage from incoming flying Metal Heads.
I screwed up with the platforming part of this a couple of times, but thankfully, all this does is send you back to the beginning; you do not have to shoot down any eggs you've already destroyed, again.
Your destruction of the last set of Metal Head Eggs will create a makeshift bridge that leads you to a Warp Gate you can use to leave the Drill Platform.
