Hi this is Ryan with Screen Rant’s featured news of the day!

Director James Gunn had a breakout hit with Guardians of the Galaxy in 2014- taking a lesser known Marvel Comics property and turning it into massive critical and box office success.

So naturally - a sequel is in the works.

Guardians of the Galaxy volume 2 is currently in production - and James Gunn revealed in a Facebook video that Marvel has already broached the subject of volume 3 with him.

His response, in short: Whoa whoa whoa whoa whoa.




So that’s not necessarily a “no” - it’s more of a “can I focus on this one for a second please?”

What’s interesting is that no director so far has actually completed a trilogy of Marvel movies.


Jon Favreau did two Iron Man’s and Joss Whedon two Avengers -- but both declined to do a thirds-- with Whedon famously saying that “Age of Ultron” “broke him”

With that being said - the Russo brothers are slated to not only do a third Marvel movie, but a fourth one as well, when they helm Avengers: Infinity War parts one and two.

So time will tell if James Gunn decides to move forward with a third Guardians film -- but good news for fans - he seems entirely dedicated to making volume 2 as awesome as it can be.
