I have covered Demo version 2 in the past, so I'll remind people just to get a perspective... I have never played the original Sonic 06, nor did I have any desire to play it up until now. So what I'm about to say here in the description will either make me the most unqualified person to review/critique this fangame or the most trustworthy one.
I'll start by saying that this is an incredible effort to polish what is otherwise known, at least at the time of release, as one of the worst Sonic games ever made, with lots of quality of life improvements. And to that end, I applaud the team behind Project 06. Still, even with those quality of life improvements, Sonic P-06 feels janky and unpredictable at times, having encountered my own fair share of glitches and deaths out of my control.
Do not get me wrong, even with the jank factor, I still had fun and from the last demo, Sonic carries some momentum to him now, making playing as him more fun now, even though the levels weren't really designed around that. It's just that I also had my fair share of frustration. Not to mention the general automation Sonic P-06 employs (which I guess it was the same for the original Sonic 06), which really rubs me the wrong way since it's used so often, but I guess it can't be helped.
This is pretty much a project for the people who enjoyed the original Sonic 06 on Xbox360/PS3, flaws and all, that want to re-experience it again only this time with some quality of life improvements and on PC. Despite being commonly considered "the worst Sonic game ever made", it garnered a dedicated fanbase. And I can see why, even with all of its flaws, it is admitedly fun, way more than any Sonic fangame that uses the Sonic Infinity framework, despite having "better physics". It's just that people who haven't played Sonic 06 or absolutely hated it if they did... I'm not sure they'll enjoy it as much...
Feature all the stages present in Demo 3 with all S ranks. You'll notice gameplay in the beginning being more sloppy (I even S rank 2 or 3 stages first try despite making mistakes and not even knowing what to do in a section), but I tried to showcase it as best as possible.
