Jedi: Fallen Order - 1st AT-ST battle
Picked up Jedi: Fallen Order on eBay last week (half price - get in!) and finally got around to sitting down with it and putting some quality time into it at the weekend. This is my first encounter with an AT ST. I hadn't realised until right near the end that you can actually lightsaber the AT-ST legs, I thought parry and force pushing the missiles back were the order of the day.
I've got slightly mixed feelings about the game. I'm mostly really enjoying it, but there are a few minor niggles that are stopping it from being epic in my opinion. It looks nice and I'm digging the whole Star Wars meets Uncharted with a bit of Metroid Prime and Tomb Raider type vibe the game's got going. Having said that though, the Tomb Raider influence started getting a bit too much for me in a part of the game just before this AT ST mini-boss type encounter. I'd been stuck in a Tomb puzzle type area, that involved having to move objects around to get out of it, for fucking ages and in that particular area there was nothing at all the made me feel like I was playing a Star Wars game. Fortunately, that does seem to have been a one off and in most of the other areas I've been too (including another tomb) there have been plenty of Stormtroopers to kill. In fact, the presence of the Empire troopers in that tomb area gave me a bit of an Indiana Jones type feeling, which is never a bad thing
The lack of a fast transport option to quickly get from one area to another is another big no no in my book, combined with a map that makes it very difficult to try and figure out the root you need to take to get back to your ship. There are shortcuts you can open up, but again, the map doesn't highlight these. The map itself is VERY difficult to read once you've opened up most of an area, as it's displayed in true Star Wars holomap style, meaning that it's transparent and different floors and levels get superimposed on top of one another. Urrgh. The combat system is something I still haven't 100% got my head around yet either, with the timing of the parrying still feeling a bit off (I was playing on the Jedi Knight difficulty here, but I've subsequently dropped it down to the regular story difficulty now and am enjoying it a lot more for doing so...)
Like I said though, I am mostly enjoying it, it's just a shame it got these few minor issues that, in my brain anyway, are stopping it from being an EPIC Star Wars game and instead of a decent enough one.
