0By some streak of fortune I actually managed to figure out the last few fates. It seems everyone gets tripped up by the Chinese Topmen, though it seems I should’ve looked a little more bottom - their feet, that is! Upon reading through the wiki, it seems their feet peeking out while they slept in their hammocks displayed each one’s distinctive footwear.
If I had paid better attention to accents, understood regional garb better, and stood my ground regarding clothing and positional associations for the references sketches, I would’ve solved many of the fates a good bit faster
Also, I can’t believe it took me so long to notice that the surgeon was the one who commissioned your investigation in the first place. I would’ve much more quickly solved the four people who ended up in Africa. Still, I couldn’t fathom actually surviving a trip that far. If it was a 3-day trip to the Canary Islands during The Calling, I wouldn’t have thought a trip to Africa in The Escape would’ve been possible - it might’ve been 15-20 days, at least judging by distance.
The epilogue was kind of interesting - getting the remaining fates cleared up was satisfying, though it was a bit of a bittersweet ending and I felt the game ended up being more about the journey (which I really liked at least) rather than the destination (similar to Outer Wilds).
Would love to see the same overall system/mechanics applied to another whodunit.
Only after this playthrough did I realize why Lucas Pope sounded so familiar - he’s the Papers, Please dev.
