Jerp plays Outer Wilds pt.6 [End] - Letting go was bittersweet (2020-10-26)
This session went incredibly long. I probably should've split it up into a couple of streams since I was getting really tired towards the ending, and I really should have seen a couple of Easter Eggs in person.
Strangely enough, the initial hint for Feldspar on Timber Hearth was the very last one I found. Goes to show how much and how well I use the Signalscope. Upon reaching them in person again, I finally made my way out back to discover their solution to the core of Giant's Deep. I carefully snuck in and reached the Probe Tracking Module at long last. Inside were the coordinates I'd need much later on back at The Vessel.
I spent a bunch more time trying to figure out how to get into the core of Ash Twin, but to no avail. Instead, I reached and completed the puzzle on the Quantum Moon to reach the Sixth Location and the curious inhabitant within.
With the majority of the Rumor Map completed, the last thing to do was to figure out how to get into Ash Twin's core - an absolute pain in the ass that turned out to be a frustratingly simple task. Here we get a huge lore dump and find an advanced warp core that's currently powering the Ash Twin Project, which survives just long enough during each loop to send information back to your past self (and your ship's computer, which happens to use salvaged Nomai technology).
The trip to take the advanced warp core (shutting down the Ash Twin Project) and deliver it the entire way to the vessel in Dark Bramble was super scary - you'd effectively get a single attempt since there's no more active masks to beam information back as the sun goes supernova.
Somehow I actually managed to complete the trip in one attempt - finally completing the Nomai's mission and kicking off the end of the game.
Overall, it was kind of a bittersweet ending - I wish I could've perhaps averted disaster - both for the Hearthians and the Nomai --- even though any sort of time travel or memory transfer far enough back to save either might've used more energy than the entirety of the universe.
I still am not especially satisfied with the ending, and I think I'll have to consider that the journey was really what made the game, rather than the destination.
