Just Cause 2 on GT 710 GDDR5 (underclocked) Core2 Duo E8400 4GB RAM Test Benchmark Cutscene Gameplay
This 2010 action classic gives both the CPU and GPU a full workload to offer up a playable experience. At the chosen settings our GT710 is pretty much maxed out so the CPU was tasked with recording gameplay at 720p60fps. With only 2 threads and very little CPU headroom recording quality was lowered for the sake of video smoothness.
Without recording there was a 3-5 FPS increase with our GPU pushed to a consistent 98-100% usage. You can expect over 5+ FPS increase if you have a regular cooling fan on an equivalent GT 710 (and don't have to downclock it), especially with a slightly stronger processor.
Graphics settings are unchanged for all 3 benchmarks and cutscene/gameplay.
Even during recording gameplay was smooth. But as you can tell by the numbers this little system is pushed to the limit in doing so.
Software used: Shotcut (video editor, open-source, free)
(besides the game) G.I.M.P. (image editor, open-source, free)
Audacity (audio editor, open-source, free)
MSI Afterburner (monitor and recording)
The PC used: HP 6000 Pro SFF desktop (from 2009)
(Windows 7 64-bit)
Core 2 Duo E8400 @ 3.0 GHz (stock)
4 GB DDR3 Ram @ 1333 MHz
Kingston 480 GB SSD
WD 250 GB HDD (the original one)
ASUS GT 710 1GD5 silent*
(downclocked from 954 to 859 MHz
to keep GPU cool)**
*This is a small fanless video card with a Kepler-based GPU. It is not meant to be used for gaming but rather as a 0 decibel upgrade for a home theater or office PC.
**This is the maximum downclock possible in ASUS' GPU Tweak but it is still faster than the DDR3 version. I would suggest a DDR5 version WITH A FAN if you want a model of this GPU that can be pushed a little harder (like, as in playing games, which it's not for, but if it was it would DEFINITELY have a fan).
Remember to always get the DDR5 version of this GPU and NOT the DDR3 version. The DDR5 version will be a useful improvement over integrated graphics in any desktop equipped with a Core 2 Duo or Quad (2006) all the way up to a 4th gen i3 or even i5 (2014). The DDR3 version can barely manage 2/3 the performance and many games will remain unplayable where the DDR5 version will offer up a steady and acceptable framerate at the same graphics settings.
Thanks for watching!
