Review -I had just completed the Megadrive version quite easily and thought I would be able to do this version in one go afterwards. I was wrong. Even though the game is very similar, it is 10 times harder. The bosses are just ridiculous. You can’t use any tricks or spam attacks to defeat them like on the Megadrive version, and finding a strategy is really, really hard. The second eye plant boss took me forever to find a strategy without getting hit because the eyeballs it shoots at you appear impossible to dodge. I couldn’t destroy them in time either until I found out if you sit at the bottom left of the screen and spam attack, you can avoid getting hit. It wouldn’t have been so hard if the collision detection wasn’t so poor. You need to really stay away from enemies because your hit box is so large.
The first 3 levels are really difficult and you have to memorise collecting the power ups so you don’t miss one. For some reason, the game gets easier in the last 2 levels. Which is nice in a way for people that would be dreading beating the third (and hardest) level. The last boss is the easiest of all! It’s much slower than the Megadrive version so you just have to repeat a pattern over and over. It’s a bit ridiculous how long the fight lasts though. It was over 50 hits. I’d already proven that I wasn’t going to get hit after 10 attacks. No need in it taking so long, especially when the rest of the game is so short.
Music and graphics are almost as good as the Megadrive. Although it is missing the iconic digitized speech of “Power up” and “Rise from your grave”.
This version of the game is simply too hard and I don’t know what they were thinking. Once you know what to do, it isn’t hard, but the number of lives lost having to find out is ridiculous.
