The creator of Amphibia made a comment talking about K-Pop Demon Hunters which I really like, and how the movie is "changing the movie business for the better."

// Anything that proves original animation is profitable is a good thing.

I would've disagreed with K-Pop Demon Hunters being original considering that it's basically just a musical magical girls story, but then again, I really can't think of any other magical girl stories where the girls are K-Pop girlbands and they have to fight against the demonic K-Pop boybands. I'm pretty sure Pretty Cure (wow that rhymes) has done something similar, and maybe arguably better.

// Even better it is a female led story based on an authentically portrayed culture.

Yeah, no. I think you're confusing authentic with idealistic because the dark and grim moments of K-Pop Demon Hunters are on the demon hunting parts.

The K-Pop bits are actually very idealistic and romanticized. It's what the media constructs K-Pop for the general masses to see. It's only "authentic" to what the media portrays and what you all see in social media, not to what the idol scene actually is in the background, which is a lot more cutthroat and unforgiving from what I heard.

Also, since you asked the question of why the males specifically, I do want to ask why is it better when it's a female led story. I guess because representation and all that, but female led stories are already plentiful. Regardless, we can all at least agree on one thing: K-Pop Demon Hunters is not a freaking anime. Seriously, what are you on about?
