KDE 3 On RedHat Linux 7.3 (VMware Player)
KDE was updated on RedHat Linux 7.3 as well. With Release 3, KDE saw many more applets and just general improvements in the UI to give it more of a Windows-like feel to it. The KDE Control Center was much more expanded to include various options. I will be honest, as much as one can crap on Windows, I feel that when it comes to customizability, Windows hits the perfect balance. Later Gnome release feel barren when it comes to customizability, like MacOS, but worse and not as elegant. KDE gives you far too many options.
However, I really like the bundled applets included. One can tell that the KDE developers were heavily influenced by Windows, along with certain elements of MacOS as well. The applets blend very well with the OS, making use of the QT GUI toolkit. Not only that, even though there are a flood of options, the desktop elements that can be customize can make the KDE desktop look very stunning indeed. With a really good help system, KDE is really heavy on the documents. A very pleasing environment indeed.
