Well, for Redhat Linux, this is a new one, video playback, and why the Hell not! If Windows can have video playback, why not Linux! Look, Xine has to be tried out. Now even though there is an option for DVD playback, RedHat didn't include the codec for legality and licensing issues. The thing is that as a free and open-source operating system, Linux can't include closed-sourced, proprietary technologies. But I still really wanted to try Xine out. However, the VCD format is supported, and after authoring a VCD ISO file, video playback was achieved on RedHat Linux 7.3 on VMware Player 17 using Xine.

Now it's time to reflect how amazing this moment is, in more ways than one.

VMware Player 17 is virtualizing a workstation with a single core allocated to it. The host has a Ryzen 5 5500 6-Core CPU running at 4.2GHz. The VM has 256MB's of RAM allocated to it, a VESA Compatible display adapter, and XFree86 is running at the screen resolution of 1024 by 768, 16-bit color depth. Also installed is a Ensoniq 1371 Audio Adapter, an ATAPI CD-ROM Drive, and a 16GB HD image with RedHat Linux 7.3 installed.
