:: ADDITIONAL INFO ::
The KDE Plasma Desktop is an amazing environment that offers a beautiful appearance of the desktop that Total takes advantage of modern computing technology.
The team behind the project says that if you are looking for a familiar work environment, Plasma Desktop offers all the tools you need for a modern desktop computing experience so you can be productive from the start.
In fact, through the use of scalable visual effects and graphics, the desktop experience is not only smooth, but also pleasing to the eye.
The KDE Project has now announced general availability for public testing of the beta version of the next series of KDE Plasma 5.21 desktop environments.
Packed with several new features and improvements, the KDE Plasma 5.21 desktop environment promises a brand new application launcher, a new dark theme for the Plasma desktop and a clear theme for applications, an updated color scheme for all standard KDE applications, as well as the highly anticipated Plasma System Monitor application.
There is also a new Plasma Firewall page in System Settings to provide full control over UFW or firewalld firewalls, an improved layout for the Media Player applet, better support for time zones, support for standalone updates, several improvements to the sound applet and the KRunner pin capacity.
Of course, there will also be many improvements in KWin and Wayland that should reduce latency and smooth animations across the desktop environment, better compatibility with GTK applications, especially with applications written in GTK 4.
In addition, KDE Plasma 5.21 brings new features to mobile devices, such as the recently announced PinePhone KDE Community Edition of the KDE Project.
This includes specific widgets adapted to the Plasma Mobile shell and the QQC2 Breeze Style, which has been fully optimized to reduce the use of RAM and GPU.
The final release of the KDE Plasma 5.21 desktop environment is expected on February 16, 2021, but you can test out the new features and improvements right now by downloading the unstable edition of the Ubuntu KDE neon distribution from the KDE project.
However, keep in mind that this is still a pre-release version, which means that you should not install and use it on a production machine.
Some bugs may still be present in the beta, so wait for the final release next month before attempting to update your installations.
