And KDE Plasma 5.24.2 LTS was officially released with fixes for various bugs. Check out the news and see how to install on Linux.
KDE Plasma Desktop is an amazing environment that offers a beautiful looking desktop that takes full advantage of modern computing technology.
The team behind the project says that if you're looking for a familiar working environment, Plasma Desktop offers all the tools you need for a modern desktop computing experience so you can be productive right from the start.
Incidentally, through the use of scalable visual effects and graphics, the desktop experience is not only smooth, but also pleasing to the eye.
Now, the KDE Project has released KDE Plasma 5.24.2 as the second maintenance update for the latest and greatest series of KDE Plasma 5.24 LTS desktop environments, to address more issues and improve overall stability and reliability.
What's New in KDE Plasma 5.24.2
KDE Plasma 5.24.2 is here just a week after KDE Plasma 5.24.1 and appears to be a small update that further improves the new Overview effect for the Plasma X11 session so that it doesn't trigger inappropriately on the lock screen when press the target key.
The KDE developers also continue to improve the Plasma Wayland session and in this second point release they fixed an issue where the virtual keyboard would not appear even if it was configured correctly.
Another interesting change in KDE Plasma 5.24.2 is the addition of an indicator line to the Show Desktop applet that appears when the desktop is being displayed.
Also, the Minimize All applet indicator line has been updated to touch the edge of the panel, no matter how its inner margins are set.
Other than that, this update improves the title/header text in menus to no longer be clipped when it is longer than the text of any of the other menu items, improves the Emoji picker to use a more appropriate icon for the Symbols page, and improves the Hot New Stuff feature to only rely on the expiration date if it is less than 24 hours.
The Pager applet has also been improved for Plasma X11 session, Task Manager now hides unnecessary scrollbar and Folder View now hides additional settings that are not relevant to List View.
For Plasma Mobile, this update improves the background darkening of the landscape actions, fixes the app drawer to interact in an empty space, and fixes the TaskPad close action.
The next point release of the KDE Plasma 5.24 LTS series is planned for March 8, 2022.
How to install or update
Plasma 5.24.2 is already official, but as usual, that doesn't mean we can easily install it on our Linux distribution.
The first system to have it available will be KDE neon, where it will likely arrive in the next few hours.
Later, they will add other distributions, among which the Rolling Releases will appear earlier, although that doesn't mean they will soon; it may take a few days or even a few weeks.
So, the KDE Plasma desktop environment will soon arrive in the stable software repositories of your favorite Linux distribution, especially releases like KDE neon, Arch Linux, openSUSE Tumbleweed, and Solus.
