I'm back with more Kerbal Space Program 1.0 Career Mode! Last episode, we returned from the Mun with a lot of science, so now it is time to plan a new mission,

We check out Mission Control, and we find a few contracts for Minmus, so that is were we decide to go. We take all the Minmus contracts that we can, and then head over to R&D. We take the remaining items that cost 90 Science, Miniaturization and Propulsion Systems. Then from the 160 science items, we take Heavier Rocketry, Command Modules, Advanced Exploration, Precision Propulsion, and Advanced Aerodynamics, and finally we take the 300 science Electronics for the Accelerometer.

I then head to the VAB to make a new rocket with the parts we just unlocked. I make a new lander with the 3 man pod, so we can take one of each type of Kerbal with us. This allows us to only take one of each science instrument, having the scientist reset it after use. The lander has a standard 2.5 meter tank and a Poodle engine, and the other normal things like, RCS, solar panels, lights, an antenna, heat shield and parachutes. Along with the parachutes are a pair of drogue chutes that we need to test when we return for a contract.

Below the lander is a 'transfer' stage that should get us to Minmus from Kerbin orbit, that is just another Poodle engine with a standard 2.5 meter tank. The main stage is a Twin Boar engine with 3 of the standard 2.5 meter tanks. Around that is 4 Kickback solid booster and 4 fins for stability. The whole rocket is 74 parts weighing 242.9 tons.

We load in Bill. Bob and Jeb, and head to the launch pad. We lift off and tilt eastward, throttling back soon after launch. We think 300 m/s at about 6.5 km and drop the solid boosters at 13 km, having hit 500 m/s. We turn over more, and head for orbit, cutting our engine whe our apoapsis hits 75 km. We are nearly out of fuel, but are about 500 m/s from orbital speed. We do the burn to get into orbit, but have to stage almost immediately and start using fuel from our transfer stage. We start dropping a bit, but we do get into orbit.

We begin planning maneuvers to get to Minmus at the end of the episode, but the actual travel there will take place next time. See you then!
