Kerbal Space Program (kOS) - Industrial automation sophistication
This is my third generation Comet Hauler in my quest for comet hauling perfection. The primary innovation is the use of robotics to allow the engine pods to maintain thrust in the correct direction regardless of orientation. This prevents thrust loss from off-angle thrust and allows me to use fewer pods overall which helps considerably with the frame rate. FPS stays steady at about 17-18 which is quite tolerable.
As an added bonus, it is much, much better at controlling the spin of the asteroid than previous iterations.
It's still mostly stock (ISRUs, NERV engines, fuel-cells, etc) but kOS is obviously involved and I did dip into the MK4 and Restock+ mods for some extra stock-alike part sizes to keep part count down. The laser range finder is the other notable addition from an awesome mod called LaserDist.
For those who are interested the kOS code can be found at github in the lodurr-voluspa/ksp-kos-scripts directory. It is in the overcomet3 directory and contains two files, one for the mothership and the other for the engine pods. It is not particularly pretty, I haven't made any particular effort to make it readable, and it probably contains some bugs, but I've put it out for any who might be curious.
