Kerbal Space Program (kOS) - Swarm Comet Redirection With Regrouping
My last video (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FcFziXh5TdU) was my first real attempt at controlling a comet by attaching engines in all directions to solve one of the big irritations with moving something that big: controlling roll and controlling thrust direction.
However, I immediately learned a couple things about the Kraken bait comets:
1. Timewarping while attached is death
2. Saving/loading while attached is death
So to make it work I needed the swarm to be able to leave the comet to save and warp. This is my first successful swarm regroup design.
I do like the Rhino engines for this purpose, but running a Rhino at full bore requires so many ISRUS and fuel cells that my frame-rate takes a major hit. I opted not to include RCS on the Rhino Pods because my part count is already atrocious, but the Rhino pods are about 90% engine by weight so doing main-engine RCS style manuevers presented its own set of challenges. I've sped up the video to "real-time", actual fps of most of the runs are around 8. So I'm headed back to NERVs for the next iteration, but I have some more tricks I want to try to make that work better and give higher TWR than my first attempt.
As usual I'm using Stock + kOS parts only, with my other mods being purely visual/informational.
