In June of 2013 NASA's IRIS solar observation satellite was launched aboard the Pegasus XL rocket from Orbital's L1011 'Stargazer' carrier aircraft out of Vandenburg, CA. This marked the 42nd launch of the Pegasus rocket, which turned 25 this year. This has to be one of my favorite launch vehicles, and I'm glad to see it still going, with another launch scheduled for the end of next year (2016).
Check out Orbital's video of the real-life version of this launch here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mBskkACG0hg
