Kid Chameleon - 5 Ways to Cross Rock Block Bridge in The Final Marathon
"Title Text Here" is supposed to say "Method 1: Cyclone" XD
The purpose of this video is to simply show that neither Cyclone nor Skycutter are actually required to cross the collapsing rock block bridge near the end of The Final Marathon.
Red Stealth can cross the gap in two ways. The first is the hardest of any method by a long shot. First of all, Red Stealth must first jump onto the rock platform from the ice terrain in a specific 3-frame window in order to attain maximum running speed as he lands. The jump Red Stealth must perform to get off the bridge is frame perfect, so you need to jump at the VERY LAST possible moment. Next, you have a 1-2 frame window to let go of the jump button so that you do not jump too high and hit the ceiling (where your momentum will be killed) or too low because you won't make it across. Remember the 3-frame window earlier? Well, if you pulled that jump off on the first possible frame, you will have a "comfortable" 2-frame window to let go of the jump button here. Otherwise, jumping on the second or third frame will make this task a frame perfect trick as well. I show the clip again at 1/4 speed to highlight it's precise difficulty. This trick actually used to be considered a viable speedrun strat because using Red Stealth's Samurai Haze on the Plethora fight allows the player to defeat him extremely fast. It wasn't used often because of it's extreme, almost TAS-like difficulty to pull off. The trick has now been rendered obsolete (at least by me), as it now saves less time compared to Kitchengun's new Plethora strat: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DlBXMa72K00
Red Stealth's other method involves getting to the rock block bridge as quick as possible upon spawning the Orca that precedes it. The bridge would have to be triggered in such a way that the Orca will charge Red Stealth, jump over the ice terrain, and maintain his momentum across the gap. Partway over the gap, Red Stealth should use Samurai Haze to bounce on the Orca while it is in midair and he should reach the other side. It may be possible to hop on him without using Samurai Haze in two different ways actually, but both are harder by a colossal margin. Enemies in this game accelerate downward without a speed cap, as opposed to the player who accelerates to a certain speed, and will then maintain that speed until hitting a floor. As a result, it would be very hard to bounce off the fast-falling Orca over the gap without dying. Another way would be to make the Orca land on the ice platform, jump and thread through the space between the ice and rock block bridges, bounce on the Orca just as he is about to fall, and get to the other side if lucky. For these reasons, using diamond powers would be much more preferred and should be reserved for casual playing only, as this trick does not appear to be useful in speedruns.
The last method is _theoretically_ possible using any helmet (RIP Iron Knight & Juggernaut), and simply involves leading a Mini-Hopping Skull to land in the bridge gap so that the player can boost off of him to the other side. You'll have to extend yourself slightly beyond the ledge of the ice terrain, so he is triggered to hop in the right direction. Be sure to get a running start afterwards and hope for the best! I show in the video how to do it with Micromax, the easiest character because his size gives him the smallest chance of hitting the top of the ice terrain on the initial jump. I also show Kid, the hardest character because of his larger dimensions and the fact he only has two hit points. I show how to complete the rest of the level as him with only 1 hp left.
