Kid Dracula (Game Boy) Playthrough - NintendoComplete
A playthrough of Konami's 1993 platform game for the Nintendo Game Boy, Kid Dracula.
Kid Dracula is a well put-together, super cutesy spin-off of the iconic Castlevania series, and though we never got the original NES game, this Game Boy sequel is a fair improvement over it.
Seeing Castlevania warped into a super-deformed, chibi-style aesthetic with way looser controls is a bit bizarre, but it works extremely well. Instead of picking up hearts to use sub-weapons, Kid Dracula gets new abilities after each boss that can be swapped on-the-fly in the middle of the action.
The Kid Dracula games also introduced the Garamoth boss that, in the west at least, is far more recognizable to Castlevania fans as a late-game boss in Symphony of the Night.
It didn't sell for beans when it was new, so good luck finding a copy of the original cartridge! But, if you do, be assured that you'll have a blast with it. It's pretty perfect as a Halloween game for the young kiddies that you don't want to expose to The Evil Within or the latest Splatterhouse game, and it's also a very well made follow-up to the Japanese Famicom game, in case you're looking for more following the release of the Castlevania Anniversary Collection.
