This is the second attempt of my absurd Killer7 run of my own creation: Killer777, or Seven Killers, Seven Chapters, Seven Versions. There are seven official versions, and the game itself has seven chapters, so the conceit is to beat the game using one entirely different version per chapter. Naturally, I did this run on 7/7/23 (on a Friday, no less).

I recommend checking out the FAQ for specifics: https://tinyurl.com/2wvh7rnm. The biggest improvement is running every version on actual hardware; previously, I had to emulate the PAL/JP PS2 versions as my PS2 Slim was not region broken at the time (and I certainly wasn’t looking to buy a new PS2). This was a major stickling point for v1, something to fix for a future attempt. Since then, I’ve hacked my PS2 Slim to be region free, so no more emulation!

This run went well, better than expected even considering the improvements. The first run was certainly a lot of fun, but I was straining against a number of things (particularly the emulation). In contrast, the pace here was so smooth (a few minor hiccups aside) that it felt completely natural despite being a decidedly unnatural run. A few mistakes here and there, like missing the Cloudman Micro, but nothing I couldn’t easily bounce back from.

Killer777 v2 was a huge success, and I’m not sure where else to go with the concept. We joked around in chat that I could potentially do Killer888 if they ever released another version of the game, but something tells me that might be a bit much. I’m sure I’ll dust it off again someday, as it’s too good of a gimmick not to repeat, but I’m pleased for the time being. My wackiest Killer7 run is done yet again!
