The Survivalist is the utility team member who can fill in for several roles on a team depending on the skill and weapon choices of the Survivalist. While THE Survivalist is never going to be as effective at a perks specialty they can get close while at the same time aslo bring several other perks' strengths to the table. Survivalists can use pretty much any weapons effectively, allowing you to combine those weapons and use them in different combinations.
A lot of people dislike this perk because they think that why would I play this if I can play everything else. That is true to a degre but if you think about it... It can be anything you want but not as good... If that made any sense.
Lets say that you are playing a multiplayer game. You are a survivalist and the other players are different perks. You can see that your teammates arent doing well and they
need a medic and they struggle to kill big zeds. Well instead of changeing into a medic or demolitionist you can be both with the survivalist. Think of it as a filling a blank
type a perk. Remember you are a jack of all trades and a master of none which pretty much means you can be any perk you want without the bonuses of a specific perk.
The survivalist is the best starting perk to play because you do well and get XP no matter what weapon you play. If you play mutliplayer you need to look at what perk your team is missing and try and be that perk. Some people only play the survivalist just to level it up to 25 and get the achievement while some adore it and play it more than anything else. I am personaly not either of them. I liked the survivalist when it first came out but later I just didnt feel like playing it anymore.
The perk is fun because you can play with different guns that you otherwise couldnt and still be effective on the battlefield. To about level 10 you will be figuring out on what kind loadouts you will use. I reccomend you pick 3 loadouts which depend on the team.
The last one is not reccomended because every one will try and kick you as soon as possible. Belive me they will try so only use it for solo games.
I personaly play this all the time and I'm even playing this build in this background replay.
The second loadout is your teamplay loadout so you need some weapons to help the team out which are:
-All the HMTECH medic guns for healing
-RPG for clearing hordes of zeds
-Some shotguns for cassualy clearing little zeds
Keep in mind you level up the survivalist with what ever weapon you play so you dont need to play just the medic or demolition weapons, you can combine them and still get xp. If you like to help the team out then this build will get you to lvl 25 in no time. Not only will you level up fast but you will also help the team out massivly which isalways awesome to have.
The solo/carry build is pretty much the perk that you know very well on how to deal with anything that comes at you. In this case for me it would be the berserker. I personaly think
that I play the berserker very well and thats what I would go for with this build
Alright now lets look at the skills of the survivalist and I will comentate on all of them.
-For the level 5 skills depends on the build you will be playing for me personaly its always the heavy weapons training
-For the level 10 skills If I play my solo build I pick the melee expert But if I play any other build I chose the medic training.
-Ok before you reach level 15 you will have the commando's grenade but once you get to level 15 you will be forced to pick between the medic and molotov grenade but in most cases the better choice is
going to be the healing grenade. If you play something that requiers you to carry more weight than feel free to take the weapon harness skill.
-For the level 20 skills its always better to chose the zed plosion because unlike the demolitionist this perk can easily die from explosives especialy on higher difficulties.
-For the level 25 skills you cant really go wrong with what you choose. I personaly always go with the madman because combine that with faster zed time reaload and you just feel the power.
Ok when you play the survivalist you get some bonuses. You get:
-weapon damage (.6% per level) A max of 15%
-global damage resistance (1% per level) A max of 25%
-heavy body armor (1% per level) A max of 125 armor You also have the same armor as the swat which means you dont take damage to your hp until you have armor
-zed time reload (3% per level) A max of 75% faster zed time reload.
