Up until now, I always considered Data Riku to be the hardest fight in the game. Riku just never stops attacking and there is so much chaos that it's hard to follow what is actually happening... I was VERY wrong... The difference in difficulty between knowing how the fight works and not is like night and day. Riku is honestly one of the easiest data fights as long as you don't let him go off and hit all his openings. Of course, this is so long as you do one very critical thing. DO NOT HIT HIS REVENGE VALUE! Riku's attack after you hit his auto-retaliation makes the fight significantly harder to control and he becomes way more predictable if you let him just fall out and attack manually.

Unlike other data fights, Riku doesn't have a fixed attack pattern. His AI is actually closer to that of Aqua in that his attacks are random but he gives subtle ques to what his next attack is. Of course, this comes with a bit of a consequence that he won't always use all his attacks. In the case of this video, Riku never once used an attack he can sometimes use after the first DM. Basically, this attack starts with Riku teleporting far away and then running at you. If this happens, he will then warp next to you, barrier dodge away and then do an unblockable slash. After the unblockable, he will do a move similar to Sonic Blade that you can block. The move will break your guard letting you Risk Dodge into an opening.

Other then that, I think every move he can do is shown other then ones that have to be forced out or ones that happen when you miss an opening. If he starts with the claw trap, he will go into a series of v-slashes that you can counter with a slightly delayed Counter Kick. If he sets up a line of mines, he will do the far away shockwave you can air step and block. If he does a circle of mines, he will teleport next to you and attack instantly. This attack you need to REALLY delay the Counter Kick for it to make contact. Also, if your Counter Kick fails to trigger a Final Blow, just continue your combo and let Speed Slash launch him. You can roll cancel the final slash to avoid the mines so you can get your second combo in.

After three openings, he will always do his DM. You just need to block and then roll forward after each slash. On the third slam, he will create a circle of mines so roll to the side instead and block the fourth slam. After the forth slam, roll in the other direction and quickly Thunder him. This thunder will cancel his DM and give you the chance to air step and get easy damage in.

Around half health, he gains some new tricks. If he starts with a barrier dodge to the side, he will follow up with another, slash and then do a barrier dodge around you and back. Time your counter to right as his first dodge ends. Your Counter Kick will hit his barrier forcing him to counter which is then followed up by a slam you can counter into an opening. You need to be careful with this opening because the lightning bolts can hit you after Final Blow's i-frames.

If he starts with two condensed layers of mines, roll to the side so he is visible and hold shocklock. Once Riku fires his energy disk, you can air step to him for an opening. Lastly, if Riku starts with a backward barrier dodge, he will follow up with a claw trap and a mine circle. Dodge Roll the claw trap and immediately guard for an opening.

It's a lot of patterns and attack openers to memorize but I do think it's a lot easier then Zodiac Aqua in 0.2 which follows the same mechanics. Aqua's patterns are mostly telegraphed by her movement while Riku's moves are telegraphed by what move he does since he will never just attack you directly without setting up some kind of trap or bait beforehand.
