The 1997 RTS which never quite got the same attention as C&C or Red Alert from Westwood. Personally I prefered this game as it had tonnes of character and had great visual explosions and sound effects. It's minor failings such as no background music, dodgy pathfinding and lack of air or naval units are all easily overlooked. However, the absence of a sell and repair function (from a menu) as well as an absence of a Mobile Construction Vehicle (not to mention a lack of save in skirmish mode) very much do impede the possible success of this game and the strategy element.

The Xtreme expansion allows for skirmish or "kaos mode" and is a very welcome addition. You can download this game today from http://www.download-full-games.com/pc/strategy/kknd_xtreme.html though with the expected signup hoops to jump through. Overall it could have been the classic 2D strategy game of the 1990s but fell just short of it but is still very playable and enjoyable.
