Hystis is a researcher who has shunned life in Idylla to live out in the wilds, where he can study the Jottun more closely. He's preparing to gatecrash their camp so he can live alongside them and he offers me a set of tasks before he does. I'm presuming there are a few ways this quest can play out and your standing with the Jottun may influence it. In the end that made no difference for me because the final outcome was determined by a persuasion check.
I get two new upgrades in this part. The first from finding one of the best rings in the game, Signet of the Warlord, it has the same buffs as it's medallion namesake, +30% all damage and +8% crit chance. That's a nice damage improvement over the Archsage's Ring, though I do lose some mana buffs from the swap (30 mana and 10% mana costs), I was rarely low on mana so not a huge problem. One of the good things about incorporating the bow into my largely magic based build is it did help to conserve mana as I wasn't spamming spells constantly. That meant I could forego a lot of the potential mana buffs for raw damage instead. A weapon like the sceptre seemed like it would require a lot more mana management and would maybe be a less viable option to do that with.
The other upgrade I get is a new twist of fate, "Trailblazer", awarded for 100% exploration of the Teeth of Naros overworld. Speaking of bows it improves mine, with +5% piercing damage and a +1 finesse boost, though sadly it only seems to apply while you're in the Teeth of Naros.
