language and literature- Gupta period was golden period for sanskrit literature, Kalidasa was one of the nine gems of royal court of Chandragupta-II. His famous books are abhijana shakuntalam, Malvikagnimitram, kumarasambhava, raghuvamsa, meghaduta etc. Bhasa wrote 17 plays, Vishakduta mudrarakshas, Poet harisena praised the conquest of samudragupta in Allahabad Prashasti, Pandit vishnu sharma wrote Panchtantra. This period show the development of literature in Pali, prakrit and Tamil language. mahabharata and Ramayana were translated Tamil.
Science and Technology- The contribution of the Gupta period in the field of Astronomy, Astrology, mathematics, Chemistry, medicine etc.
Aryabhatta was a great scientist and mathematician. He first proved that the Earth moved around the sun. He could foretell Solar and Lunar Eclipse. He wrote the book Aryabhattam. The book explains the concept of Square roots, the place value, Decimal system, circle, triangle etc. Charak and Shushrut had a great contribution in the field og medical science. Charak wrote charak Samhita and Sushrut a surgeon wrote Sushrut Samhita. Nagarjuna was famoous Scholar of chemistry. The rust free Iron pillar in Mehrauli(delhi) is a fine example of Iron technology of Gupta period.
Golden age:- The Gupta period is also known as golden age of ancient India because of establishment of political unity of peace and order, progress in the field of art and architecture, language and literature, science, religion etc. The administration was ideal. Aryabhatta, Varahamihira, Nagarjuna were the famous scholars. Brahmins scholars, saints and women were respected, students from far away places cam eto study in universities of Nalanda, kanauj, Takshila, Ujjain etc. They introduced many silver and gold coins. They encouraged the development of agriculture, industry and trade.
