This is the 9th part of my La-Mulana streamed playthrough. In this part, I do more puzzle solving, finally getting to the end of the Twin Labyrinth and finish off with the fight against Viy, the boss of the Inferno Cavern.

In order to make some progress I had to do some preparation. After navigating the Twin Labyrinth for a bit I managed to acquire the Ankh Jewel for that area, and an important item in the Lamp of Time. This item when activated freezes time for a few seconds, which is required for a lot of puzzle solving. It can really help when fighting some of the mini-bosses too, or even bypassing them completely as in the case of Zu.

The final puzzle of the Twin Labyrinth requires knowledge of how the front side and back side are connected and intertwined. In one area there are four witches, which reveals a fifth black robed one once you beat them. However, you need to leave that one alone, and travel to the opposite version of that room, to beat the 4 witches again, and finally a fifth white robed witch. This reveals the Ankh for the area and the boss, Baphomet. I give her one attempt, before moving on, but I'll be back for her.

In the Graveyard of the Giants, I finally get a defensive item in the Silver Shield. Don't buy the one in the nearby shop, it's a fake. This blocks projectile attacks from the front but is knocked down after a few attacks. Still, it's very nice for preserving a bit more health.

In the Gate of Illusion, I solve a puzzle there in three parts, which leads to the Cog of the Soul. This curious item actually allows you to create life, which I demonstrate immediately.

After getting this shield, and the Twin Labyrinth's Orb to further bolster my health, I finally feel confident enough to take on Viy. The boss arena is constantly moving upwards, and he only has two attacks, and is vunerable during one of them. The other is a huge laser that does obscene damage, so try to never get hit by it (caltrops are a nice idea if you know how to use them). Viy's body itself also drains your health nicely, but all the other attacks here don't do much. When he extents his eyeball up, that's your chance to attack. At the start he does this, and you can get a nice chunk of damage in I discovered, this being the key to a quick fight.

Beating Viy unlocks a new part of the Chamber of Extinction, and that will be the first place to explore in the next part, so be sure to tune in!
