Landscape LOD comparison with Vanilla engine
This video is from the original engine with trees disabled (bEnableTrees=0 in Oblivion.ini). My implementation (see the video from a couple of day ago) appears to load the same amount of statics - it turns out that the vanilla engine doesn't load many distant statics at all, not even rocks. Some notable differences are:
* the view distance before fog is actually shorter than my earlier video, even with the slider at the max setting
* the static object loading is independent of loaded cell/terrain (and it appears that the trees hide the lack of visible static objects such as rocks)
* the blending of the loaded terrain and the LOD mesh is rather smooth
* the FPS on the same laptop approaches 250 - it is quite depressing to realise how much work is still left to be done
