Late-Game Minecraft 301 :: Boosting Mob Farm Rates
There are still many caves in the nearby dark forest that are yet to be explored! Lighting these caves up may help to increase the spawning rates in our mob farm. After collecting some items from our farms, we head over to the dark forest to look for caves! We find several ravines and two amethyst geodes!
Collecting some sugar canes from the axolotl stream, we craft a new pair of shears for our adventure into the caves! We shear a few sheep for their colourful wool. Crafting an orange bed, we head over to the mob farm collection chamber and place it down in the corner!
The bed will be useful as we are always sleeping at the mob farm! We slay a few mobs and see that it is getting dark. We fly back to the deepslate base to place down our white bed and sleep! In the morning, we craft a grindstone!
Down in the collection chamber, we collect some loot and trade with our villager! We place the grindstone in the corner. We can use the grindstone to collect some free experience from the enchanted gear that the mobs keep dropping!
Leaving the farm, we stock up on wood before heading into the dark forest! We look around for caves that we have not explored before. Seeing some dark spots, we place down our torches for light! We fly up into the sky to see if we can spot any caves from afar.
Further along the coast, we notice a ravine in the ground! Seeing some smooth basalt and some calcite, we realise that we have found another amethyst geode! We carefully break our way into the geode and mine some amethyst crystals!
Heading deeper into the ravine, we shoot at a skeleton on a ledge! We place down our torches to light up the area. We also hear a zombie, but we are not sure where it is! We see an entrance to some caves and go in to explore.
Although mobs seem rare here, we keep hearing zombies! We mine towards the sounds and find a gravel deposit. Behind the deposit, we slay the zombies and follow a tunnel down to a lava lake! Exploring the caves, we eventually find some diamonds! Nice!
As the diamonds are located above lava, we place down our water bucket to cool the lava into obsidian before mining! We use our Fortune III pickaxe to mine deepslate, as cobbled deepslate is much more useful for building than the actual deepslate block!
Our clock tells us that it is night and we sleep! We mine some coal for torches before continuing to explore! Around a corner, we come face to face with a creeper and quickly retreat! That was close! Soon, we find that we are back in a familiar room!
We keep our items in a Shulker box and hear a bat. It leads us to the bottom of a new ravine! Many mobs are here but they are kept at bay by a water stream. We swim up a waterfall to get to the top! To explore a ravine safely, it is best to start at the top so mobs cannot ambush you from above!
The worst are the creepers, which can time their explosions to occur when they land! After making our way onto a ledge, we indeed see a creeper walking towards us! We slay it and head into the cave where it came from. We find the entrance to another ravine!
Seems like we have found a big cave system! Against our own advice, we venture into the bottom of the ravine to light it up! We spot a geode at the bottom of the ravine as well, wow! We see some white light in the distance and head over to check it out.
Seeing a creeper behind us, we realise how risky it is! We decide to swim up a waterfall instead. We are not yet at the top so we carefully build a staircase upwards! There does not seem to be many mobs here, so we cautiously place down our Shulker box to organise our items.
Making our way to the other end of the ravine, we see daylight and realise that we are back where we had started! We light up another branch of the caves before looking up to the dark forest above. We spot another dark tunnel leading deeper underground!
The tunnel is empty but we hear a lot of mobs! After mining some copper, we dig towards the source of the noises and find another unlit section of the caves. We find a large slime accompanied by an explosive green friend!
Finding a dead end, we see three creepers gathered behind a granite wall! We quickly retreat and shoot at the creepers, but we miss a shot and one explodes! We quickly mine the surviving copper ore blocks before the last creeper explodes.
The caves seem to be free from mobs now, so we place down our bed to sleep! We place down torches and mine copper as we take our leave. We also use some cobblestone to mark the exit! Then, we light up the rest of the dark forest ravine.
We decide to light up the rest of the caves properly before exploring another dark cave. Retracing the path that we took through the caves, we mine all the copper ore that we walked past! Then, we end the episode in a quiet corner.
