Late-Game Minecraft 297 :: Mob Farm Toggle Switch
After breeding our axolotls and covering up the mob farm, we work on the farm's redstone mechanisms! Today we add in a new circuit that connects a lever to all the spawning floors and the two redstone clocks! This allows the farm to be effectively deactivated when the lever is flipped!
We mine the iron ore and the diamond ore that we had found yesterday! We dig around a bit more and find some redstone. Seeing the villager sleep in her new orange bed, it should be night soon! We quickly fill in the space and cover the walls with quartz blocks before going to sleep.
In the morning, we slay a few mobs before filling in the quartz blocks for the ceiling of the villager's room! We sell some rotten flesh and keep the quartz in our Shulker box. Then, we return to the deepslate base to store away our items!
Keeping the poppies in our barrel, we collect the honeycomb from the beehives! We also repair our shears. We check the wandering trader's trades to ensure that we have bought everything! Then, we breed our axolotls with the buckets of tropical fish!
We seem to have less brown and yellow axolotls, so we feed the fish to axolotls of those colours! We leave the buckets in our chest before crossing the river. At the chests on the hill, we pick up some dirt to fill the remaining space on top of the mob farm!
Once the mob farm is fully covered, we head to the collection chamber! We continue to slay mobs and sell some rotten flesh to the cleric. Flying up to the chests again, we take a look at the restored terrain from above! Then, we retrieve some redstone, glowstone and stone from the chests.
In the collection chamber, we clear the mobs before breaking into the space behind the left wall! From here, we mine upwards to access the shaft of redstone torches. We intend to use the shaft for the future toggle switch!
We replace the exposed blocks with stone and see that it is turning to night on our clock! We place down our bed in the corner to sleep. The game still tells us that there are monsters nearby, so we are forced to head to the entrance shaft to sleep!
Slaying some mobs to mend our pickaxe, we organise the items in our chests and barrels! Then, we use our rockets to fly up and get to the circuits of the mob farm! We spend some time looking at the current redstone circuit to figure out a way to connect a new wire to the hopper clock!
In the end, we decide to clear the space behind the clock for our new circuit! We place down some glowstone for light and replace the diorite and dirt blocks with stone. We place down a lever to test that we can still turn off the clock from the back!
Next, we work on a new wire leading to the trapdoors that hold back the water! Besides turning off the clocks to prevent lag, we want the switch to release the water on every floor, preventing mobs from spawning! We craft a redstone repeater so that the new wire does not interfere with another circuit!
To connect all the wiring together, we make a new tunnel that goes behind the stone wall! We light it up with glowstone and ensure that the walls are free of diorite. We place the levers back down so we can still activate the spawning floors manually if we want to!
Going down to the collection room, we see that there are no mobs at all, since we were messing with the circuits above! We try to fly back up to the redstone room and take a lot of damage, oops! It is getting late so we decide to sleep while waiting for our hearts to refill.
In the morning, we trade more rotten flesh and craft another double chest for drops! We slay mobs again before successfully flying up to the redstone room. We break the blocks beneath the redstone to replace them with stone bricks, uncovering a vein of coal ore!
After mining the coal, we replace the wiring. There is one more clock that we need to turn off! We decide to route the redstone wiring behind the bubble column shaft so we can connect it to the clock for the sorting system!
We place glowstone on the walls to light up the tunnel before installing the redstone wires. Again, we replace the stone on the floor with stone bricks! We have to make another small tunnel to connect the wire to the back of the clock, finding some copper ore in the process!
Now, the circuit is almost done! The sorting system clock is quite a distance from the flushing system clock though! We place down a lever and turn it on, and we see that the power only goes up to the first clock! We craft some repeaters to bring the current over to the second clock.
We head down into the collection chamber and sleep before ending the episode! The lever to switch off the farm should be working, but we want to place it in the collection room for convenience. That will require more redstone engineering on another day!
